#StopAsianHate

The entire purpose of IUDIxYouth is to call attention to underrepresented issues. Today, we stand in solidarity with the Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Hate crimes against AAPI has grown nearly 150% and there have been at least 3,800 incidents. The majority of those targeted are the elderly and women. It’s important to remember that these are individual inherently priceless lives. These are mothers, fathers, grandparents, children, etc who either went through a horrific traumatic event or even lost their lives. Remember their names, remember their stories.

This week 8 lives were tragically taken away in Georgia, 6 of whom were Asian.

White supremacy and xenophobia have always affected Asian communities. However, the recent pandemic has led to a rise in hate crimes that are unjustifiable and inexcusable. During these times it’s important you reach out to your Asian friends and check in on them. We will also provide links to organizations to help donate or spread awareness. Mario Balotelli once said, “Racism springs from ignorance.” We encourage everyone to educate themselves and listen, in an effort to uplift Asian voices and experiences.
